Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Van Buren County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to respond and maintain necessary correspondence. It is kept within the operation of this site unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page may send routine technical information to the site’s servers:
- Page-view dates and times
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- IP address assigned to the device
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent
- A referring website, when supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services can show aggregate patterns, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Browser settings can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Routing a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Measuring which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Van Buren County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general routing information for the Sheriff, the 7th District and 36th Circuit courts, Michigan State Police, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to information entered there. This policy does not govern those providers, so their terms should be reviewed before a query is submitted.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Van Buren County offices, Michigan agencies, court systems, or independent services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s privacy policy applies. That policy should be checked before personal information is provided.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to recognize activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs under the provider’s controls.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a query
- Advertising networks serving content
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used for information under the site’s control. No internet-connected system can promise absolute safety, and this policy does not guarantee that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when a valid request establishes that it is held here.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights concerning personal data held by this site. Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs requests to Michigan public bodies, while MCL 28.242 governs criminal-history information collected by Michigan State Police. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public record custodian. A visitor may still:
- Request access to personal information held here
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek deletion where applicable law permits it
- Object to eligible forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A new effective date will appear here when an updated version is posted.
